“I strongly believe in developing a therapeutic relationship to help patients to make independent, informed decisions to improve their mental well-being.”

I have had an illustrious career in psychiatry as a general adult psychiatrist. I am proud of my career spanning over four decades, and I have had the privilege of serving in many other countries. From my early days in Sri Lanka, I contributed to psychiatry services in England, Bermuda, Canberra, and now in Sydney. I am committed to enhancing the well-being of my patients.

Being the inaugural president of the Sri Lanka College of Psychiatry and starting the first state-run residential rehabilitation centre in Sri Lanka are rewarding experiences that highlight my career.

Since 2007, until I moved to Sydney in 2024, I have been an integral part of the Canberra Health Service as a Senior Staff Specialist. I worked in both inpatient and community settings. I established the only smoking cessation clinic within the Canberra Health Service in September 2015. I enjoy challenges in psychiatry and have a particular interest in sexual dysfunctions, smoking, substance dependence and alcohol abuse, often underrepresented areas of psychiatry. My approach to patient care is holistic and empathetic as I ensure everyone feels heard, understood, and empowered on their unique journey to well-being.
