Dr Shama Parveen

I am a consultant psychiatrist with specialist qualifications in intellectual disability psychiatry and trained in the UK. I am a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, United Kingdom (MRCPsych). I completed my core psychiatry training in the West Midlands and subsequent specialist training at the South West London and St George’s Psychiatry Rotations (CCT in ID Psychiatry, UK). I worked as a consultant psychiatrist for the National Health Services (NHS) UK for three years before moving to Australia in 2021. I am a passionate and strong advocate for people with intellectual disability and other neurodevelopmental disorders. I am fluent in communication in both English and Bengali.
I am a staff specialist psychiatrist at the Intellectual Disability Mental Health team in Northern Sydney LHD, a district-wide multi-disciplinary team. I am a RANZCP-accredited trainer for psychiatric trainees and enjoy teaching and research activities.
