We believe quality mental health care should be transparent and predictable. Below you’ll find a full breakdown of our fees, so you know exactly what to expect before your first appointment.
Our telehealth fees are the same as our in-person fees, so you can choose whichever option works best for you. If you have any questions about cost or what you’ll get back from Medicare, our reception team is happy to help.
How fees & rebates work
- You pay the full appointment fee at the time of your appointment.
- If you have a valid GP referral and a Medicare card, we submit your rebate claim to
Medicare on your behalf on the day of your appointment. The rebate is typically
deposited into your nominated bank account within 2–3 business days. - Referrals from GPs are valid for 12 months. Referrals from other specialists are valid for
3 months. - To claim a Medicare rebate for psychology, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan
(MHTP) from your GP.
Psychiatry
Our psychiatrists offer face-to-face consultations at our Carlingford and Norwest clinics, and telehealth appointments Australia wide. Fees vary by clinician, please see individual clinician schedules below.

Booking deposit
A $100 deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your appointment. This deposit is applied to the cost of your appointment when you attend. If you cancel with at least 48 hours’ notice, the deposit is fully refunded.
Card surcharge
We accept Visa, Mastercard, and EFTPOS. Card payments may attract a payment processing fee. Please note that this fee is set by our payment provider and paid directly to them. Mind Connections does not retain any part of it.
Cancellations and missed appointments
We require at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice, or appointments that are missed (Did Not Attend), will incur a $100 fee. Medicare rebates are not available for cancellation fees.
Referrals

To claim a Medicare rebate for psychology, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP.
Medicare Safety Net
Once your out-of-pocket medical costs reach a certain threshold within a calendar year, Medicare may cover a larger share of your appointment fees through the Extended Medicare Safety Net.
Visit www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/medicare-safety-nets to learn more or check your progress.
Private health insurance
Outpatient psychiatry consultations are generally not covered by private health insurance. Psychology services may be covered under extras cover, please check with your fund for details.
FAQS
Please ask your GP to include the relevant details in your referral letter. For DVA, your DVA number and for workers compensation, the insurer’s name, claim number, and confirmation of approval.
With these details in your referral, we’ll bill the third party directly and you’ll have no out-of-pocket cost. If you’re unsure whether your referral has everything we need, our reception team is happy to check before your appointment.
Medicare applies rules to how often certain items can be claimed. For example, Item 291 can typically only be claimed once every 12 months. If you’ve seen another psychiatrist recently, your rebate may be lower. We recommend confirming your eligibility with Medicare before your appointment by calling 132 011.
Mind Connections is a private practice and we do not routinely offer bulk billing. With a valid GP referral, Medicare rebates apply to most appointments, typically processed on the day and deposited into your bank account within 2–3 business days.
Patients referred under funded programs such as WentWest are not charged a fee, as costs are covered directly by the program. If you’re experiencing financial hardship, please speak with your GP or our reception team about other options that may be available to you.
No. A valid referral is required to claim any Medicare rebate for psychiatry or psychology.
Yes, our fees are identical for telehealth and in-person consultations of the equivalent Medicare item.
